I love the photographs that were taken of South Africa prior to 1900. They took such trouble and were so difficult to do, but the images these pioneers of photography recorded were remarkable. I am particularly fond of this one, which shows the docks, with the skeleton of a rotten ship in the foreground.

You’ve opened a rare window onto the past. Thanks, Martin.
Good day Martin. I’m not sure how to contact you so I hope you receive this. I’m writing a short informal story about our family history in Cape Town for my grandchildren, which will not be for publication. I’d like to use the photo of Cape Town harbour in 1879. Is this OK, if I credit you? Many thanks.
You are welcome to. Please do. Martin
Many thanks Martin.
