In 1984 I joined the BBC, working primarily on Africa. I was appointed Africa editor, BBC World Service News in 2003 a position I held until I retired in October 2013.

In that time I reported from across the continent but some of my happiest and most memorable moments were working with my wonderful African Service colleagues in Bush House.
