Today the Peoples March in support of the NHS arrived in London after completing the 300 miles from Jarrow.

P1040824Inspired by the 1936 Jarrow March, which protested against poverty and unemployment in north England, the current march was organised by Joanna Adams a mother from Darlington.

According to Rehana Azam, the march’s co-ordinator, around 15-to-20,000 people have either taken part or shown support online and the response to the march has exceeded expectations.

P1040809The gruelling trek took 21 days and a hard core of 36 marchers did the full distance.

The message was a simple one: the NHS is ours.

We built it, we own it, we use it. It’s under attack and if we don’t fight for it, we’ll lose it.
