The British Foreign and Commonwealth Office has confirmed that a team of British officials visited Eritrea on Monday and Tuesday this week.
They were – in the words of a government spokesman – looking at drivers of migration to the European Union and the UK. This was, he explained, part of the Khartoum Process. This is looking at the underlying causes of migration with “source countries”.
The Foreign Office team was led by a Director, and was a joint mission with the Home Office, which controls entry into the United Kingdom.
