Brigade N’Hamedu met in Ethiopia to discuss how to overthrow Eritrea’s repressive dictatorship.

Brigade N’hamedu members have been permitted to publicly display their logos and hold meetings in Addis Ababa.

“Our enemy is in Eritrea. Therefore, our activities here, in Europe or America will not bring about change inside Eritrea. Hence, we have decided to consolidate all our resources to conduct an [armed] struggle from nearby. Our objective is only one: to topple the regime,” stated a Brigade N’hamedu leader.

On 28 May Brigade N’hamedu held a convention in Addis Ababa, during which its members claimed that President Isaias Afewerki’s government was weakening and declared their determination to making all necessary sacrifices to overthrow the regime. The convention took place close to Prime Minister Abiy’s palace.

Tigrayan media released footage showing large numbers of Eritrean youth attending the convention and passionately vowing to do everything necessary to topple Isaias.

It appears that Prime Minister Abiy has decided to back them. Whether he plans to use them as bargaining chips to prevent Eritrean meddling in the Amhara conflict, or is sincerely considering backing their planned armed struggle inside Eritrea, remains to be seen.
