A reply to Lord Alton from Baroness Chapman, Minister of State for International Development and Africa, Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office
I share your deep concern at the continuing reports of human rights violations and abuses in Ethiopia, including in Western Tigray. Reports continue to emerge of serious violations, including forced displacement, arbitrary detention, and restrictions on humanitarian access, committed by multiple actors across the country. Violence against civilians is unacceptable and undermines efforts to secure lasting peace… We continue to engage regularly with the Government of Ethiopia and regional authorities in Tigray at the highest levels to press for the protection of civilians, respect for human rights, and unhindered humanitarian access across the country.
